Back Up Gun (B.U.G.) Stages


 

Stage 1: MINI B.U.G. STANDARDS

Scoring: Limited Vickers

Equipment: 2 IDPA, 2 cover garments, 1 barricade

Directions: Gun loaded to B.U.G. capacity, holstered, hands naturally at sides.

String 1: Start at position 1. On signal draw and engage T1 and T2 with one round from retention position.

String 2: Start at position 1. On signal draw and engage T1 with 1 round from retention position, then retreat and engage T2 with two rounds.

String 3: Start at position 2 and on signal engage T1 on that side of the barricade with two rounds strong hand only from the strong hand side of the barricade, then switch the gun to the weak hand and engage T2 with two rounds on the weak side of the barricade.

String 4: from behind the barricade, starting with the gun holstered. On signal engage T1 with one round freestyle in the head.

S.O. T1 & T2 designation are on the opposite targets for left handed shooters



 

Stage: B.U.G Side to Side

Scoring: Vickers

Equipment: 4 barrels, 1 wall, 5 IDPA.  Place the center IDPA so it may be engaged from either side of the wall and the other IDPA targets only visible from their respective sides.

Directions: The shooter starts at either outside barrel with gun loaded to BUG capacity.  On signal move to the far barrel while engaging each IDPA with a minimum of two rounds each.  Reloads must be done behind cover and all targets engaged while moving.


 

Stage: BUG Left & Right

Scoring: Limited Vickers (10 rds)

Equipment: 2 barrels, 5 IDPA.  Place the center IDPA so it is centered with the barrels.  Barrels are stacked and placed 7 yards from the center IDPA.

Directions: The shooter starts behind the barrels loaded to BUG capacity.   On signal engage all five targets with strong hand only from that side of the barrels with one round each, reload and engage all targets with one round from the weak side of the barrel using the weak hand only. Malfunction clearance and reloads may be done using both hands.


Stage: Free, Strong or Weak

Scoring: Limited Vickers (9 rds)

Equipment: 1 non-threat, 3 IDPA.  Place the center IDPA so it is 2 yards directly behind the non-threat. Shooter will need to move offline in order to engage the far target. Start position is 5 yards from the non-threat.

Directions: The shooter starts centered with the non-threat, loaded to BUG capacity and gun holstered except in string 3 where they start gun in weak hand.

String 1: On signal engage the targets with one round each freestyle in tactical priority (near to far). Reload for string 2.

String 2: On signal engage the targets with one round each strong hand only in tactical priority (near to far). Reload for string 3.

String 3: On signal engage the targets with one round each weak hand only in tactical priority (near to far).

S.O. Extra hits on the back target will be considered a procedural.


Stage: Crappy BUG

Scoring: Limited Vickers (12 rds)

Equipment: 2 IDPA, chair, holster, roll of TP.  Place the targets 5 yards from the chair. A small table in front of the shooter's feet can be used in place of the holster between the feet.  Club supplies the holster. Optional screen or door between the shooter and targets adds to the stage.

Directions: The shooter loads gun to BUG capacity, holstered between the feet and seated upright with hands holding roll of TP

String 1: On signal engage the targets with two rounds each to the body in tactical sequence with T1 engaged first. Reload for string 2.

String 2: On signal engage the targets with two rounds each to the body in tactical sequence with T2 engaged first. reload for string 3.

String 3: On signal engage the targets with two rounds each to the head.


Stage: Retreat

Scoring: Limited Vickers

Setup: left target has a cover garment on it.  Wall is placed (barricade) between the targets so that the right target cannot be seen till the shooter retreats.

Directions: Starting 1 yard from the left targets, gun loaded with 5 rounds, gun held in retention position.  On signal retreat and engage the left target with two rounds in the body from retention then 1 round in the head freestyle, then as the right target becomes visible engage with two rounds.



Stage: Bugs Behind a Barrel

Scoring: Limited Vickers

Setup: 2 IDPA, two stands, 4 uprights, 1 barricade, two barrels.  Barrel is 5 yards from the right target.  Barricade is placed so that only one target can be seen from either side of the barrels.

Directions: Loaded with 5 rounds, and positioned behind the barrels so that neither target is visible to the shooter.  On signal engage either target. The left target gets two in the body and one in the head, the right targets gets two in the body.



Stage: What Body Armor?

Scoring: Limited Vickers

Setup: 2 IDPA, 1 cover garment, 2 clothes pins

Directions: From the 3 yard line, gun loaded to BUG maximum (5), back turned to the targets.  When the shooter is ready another person places the shirt on one of the targets.  On signal the shooter turns and engages the target with the body armor (shirt) with 1 rounds, two rounds on the other target, then another in the body of the first target, then the head of that target. (Tactical sequence with the target having body armor engaged first.)


 

Stage: Offline C

Scoring: Limited Vickers (10 rds)

Location:

Setup: 1 IDPA, 1 NT, 4 barrels, 2 stands, 4 uprights.  Mark starting position. Place the barrels so that movement left or right is limited and still be able to engage T1.

Directions: Standing in starting position (hands on shoulders of NT) with gun loaded to BUG maximum.

String 1: On signal the shooter moves right and backwards while engaging the T1 with 5 rounds.

String 2: On signal the shooter moves left and backwards while engaging the T1 with 5 rounds.

Continuous movement is needed by the shooter till all rounds are fired.

SO: replace T1 for each squad or as needed.



Stage: Bayou Boys

Scoring: Limited Vickers (9 rounds)

Location:

Setup: 3 IDPA, 1 NT, 3 barrels or other cover objects.  Set NT so that from each barrel one or more target is obscured by it. Example: from position A the NT obscures T3, from position B the NT obscures T2 and from position C the NT obscures T1

Directions: On signal move to either position A or position C and engage the all targets with 1 rounds each, then move to the next position and engage all targets with one round each, and lastly move the final position and engage the targets with one round each. Reloads must be from behind cover and IDPA legal.



Stage: Surefire #15

Scoring: Limited Vickers (10)

Location:

Set-Up: 2 IDPA, 1 barricade,  2 stands, 4 uprights. Start and finish line are 5 yards from respective targets and the barricade is 10 yards from the centerline between the two.

Description: Load gun to BUG capacity. Start in front of T1.  On signal retreat to barricade while engaging T1 with 5 rounds, perform a slide lock reload behind the barricade, then advance on T2 while engaging it with 5  rounds.



Stage: Walled Square

Scoring: Vickers (7 to 15)

Location: Bay 

Setup: 2 short walls, 5 IDPA, 5 stands, 10 uprights, 2 or 4 barrels.

Directions: Start at position A. start with gun loaded to BUG maximum. On signal Retreat from T1 while engaging it with 2 rounds, move laterally and engage T2-T4 with one round each, slidelock reload, then engage the remaining target with 2 rounds while retreating.  All shooting must be done on the move, reloads behind cover.

Shooter may choose to shoot 5 on T1, 1 or 2 on T2-T4 and 5 on T5



Stage: Intruder Alert

You have made it home from the match.  As you enter your house you hear voices.  You match gun is unloaded as are the magazines for it.  You grab your BUG gun.  As you move through the house you encounter three BGs.  You begin the engage the BGs and then realize that you only have a BUG gun with its limited capacity.  Move to your ammo cache on slide lock, reload and re-engage the BGs while retreating.

Scoring: Vickers (9)                                           Location:

Setup: 3 IDPA, 3 Stands, 6 upright, small table or box, starting line 12 yards from the targets.  Spare ammo is placed 7 yards from the starting line.

Directions: Start with your gun loaded to BUG capacity. On signal advance while engaging the targets with 1 or 2 rounds, when your gun goes to slide lock, grab a spare magazines, then reload and engage the BGs while retreating with 1 or 2 rounds till all three targets have a minimum of 3 hits.



Stage: Bar Room Blitz

Scoring: Vickers (9)

Location:

Setup: 8 IDPA, 2 NT, 1 flopper, 2 barrels, 1 swinger, 6 stands, 12 uprights. Set swinger behind the end of the bar to move when the red flopper is knocked over.

Directions: You are tending bar.  Your BUG is in your holster. On signal draw your gun and take care of the BGs who have begun a rampage in the bar.  Hint: one BG snuck out the door and is persuading his buddies to storm the door. Minimum 1 hits per threat (must be a -1 or zero hit), shoot steel till down. All shooting and reloading from cover.
